Felonies and Misdemeanors

Both felonies and misdemeanors can carry serious penalties in Maryland. Some misdemeanors even have longer penalties than felonies! That is why no matter whether you are charged with a felony or a misdemeanor, the process of handling your criminal case is the same. First, we will talk to you and hear your version of events. Then, we will want to look at all of the discovery, which is all of the evidence the prosecutors have that they are required to turn over to us. Next, we will have an honest conversation with you about what we think would be the best course of action in your case. It may be a trial, it may be a plea deal. That decision is ultimately yours, but we will work together to help you make the decision that is right for you.

Drug Cases

When it comes to a drug case, the first thing we look for is how the drugs were found. We need to know if there is a good search. Not all searches need a warrant. As we look at your case, we will let you know if the search is good, in which case we figure out what other angles we need to approach your case from. If the search is bad, we move to suppress it.

Assaults

Maryland has two kinds of assault: first-degree and second-degree. First-degree assault is a felony and carries a penalty of up to 25 years of incarceration. Second-degree assault is a misdemeanor and carries up to 10 years of incarceration. When handling an assault case, the first thing we want to hear is your version of events. We know that what gets reported always isn't what actually happened, and that's a challenge we've dealt with many times.
